Half Fare To Palmerston North

This story is about a teenaged boy named Luke who moved out of his home because his dad yelled at him after his teacher told his father that he wasn’t happy about his behaviour at school. 

Luke and his father had a conversation about his attitude. When they were having a conversation, Luke's father hit Luke on the head. After Luke's father hit him on the head, Luke felt a little bit ashamed of himself because that was his first time he ever got hit.  

After that incident, Luke thought of moving to his friend, Jason's house but Jason's mum's boyfriend was there and so he decided to go to Palmerston North instead. When he was on his way to the bus stop, Luke’s father came and said that he was very sorry.

The problem was solved when Dad came to the Bus top told Luke that he was very sorry about what he did. Then dad asked Luke if he wanted a burger and Luke said that it would be a good idea. Luke and his dad forgave each other.

I liked this story because I learnt how to forgive give each other when we fight, argue or have an argument and I also liked this story because it was very interesting.

A Natural Actor By David Hill

A Natural Actor by David Hill is about a boy and a girl. The girl and boy’s  name’s were Tanya and Chad Finlay. Tanya and Chad Finlay were in the hall do a funny act.

Tanya had a rumbling stomach and went to eat a sandwich. She ate two coconut biscuits but she ate it too fast. Then she started to get hiccups.

Tanya finished her act and when she went past Ms. Yee's room, the Rm 18’s teacher said, "Well done on your act Tanya”.

When Tanya was on stage she was licking a lolly fume and start sneezing. Then she started sneezing and everyone in the hall began laughing at their act because it was so funny and that’s how they solved the problem. After that Chad Finlay gave Tanya a huge smile.

I liked this story because it was funny and it was interesting.

A Natural Actor By David Hill

A Natural Actor by David Hill is a story about a girl named Tanya who was frightened of going on the stage to perform a play. When it was Tanya’s turn to go on to the stage she started coughing and she had hiccups.The audience laughed and thought that it was part of the play.Finally Tanya’s teacher gave her a coughing lolly and she stopped coughing.

The problem was solved when she had  hiccup in front of the audience. Then everyone laughed at her because they thought that was her act.  I liked this story because it was so funny when Tanya had  hiccups and the audience started to laugh because they thought that was Tanya’s act.

Always a good view by Brooke Whaitiri

The main character in this story is Brooke Whaitiri. She has a friend and her name is Reed. They were best friends since they were 3 and 2 years of age. She met Brooke Whaitiri, a Chatham Islander who lived in the fishing settlement of Kaingaroa.

This story  took place at the beach where Brooke’s family lived.  Brooke Whaitiri really liked the beach because she could collect shells and go fishing on the rocks.

Brooke  did not go fishing on her Dad’s boat because usually became  seasick. Her Dad took her out fishing from the rocks so that Brooke would not miss out on fishing and at least enjoy fishing without being sick.

This story is about 2 Children and their Mum.The two children liked to play soccer because that was their favourite sport to play.The children and the mum heard there was a big game in their hometown.

Mum wanted the boys to do some chores before they could go to the big game.

The Mum and her children went to the park to see the rugby players and the author’s stomach started flipping  as if she was playing.

Mum went up to Shawn when the kids went away. Then Karla’s mum asked  when Shawn was playing again because she wanted the children to more chores for her.

This article is all about Damon and Mark going to Toy story and Mark bought his new sneakers.

At the pools Mark told Damon that he had new sneakers.  After they swam in the pool they went back and checked for his new sneakers, but it was not there.  Mark went red because he could not find his new sneakers, so he blamed  Damon because Damon was the one who saw him putting it away and then they did not meet up again.

At the end they found out that Damon threw it under the bench.

This story is about a family that wanted to go to watch a rugby game in their small town. They had  to do all the chores at home before they could be allowed to  go to the big rugby game in town.   The characters in this story are Mum, Shane, Karla and the children.

This story takes place at the rugby field. I learnt that the children finally got to see their  famous player. Mum wished that there was another big game so that the  children could do more chores for her.

I like this story because it is about rugby and rugby is my favourite sport.

This story is about a family that plays soccer but once they heard that there was a rugby game in town,  they waited for the right moment to ask mum if they could go and watch the game because it was a special  pre season match and they would do anything to go although they have not really been  rugby fans.

Mum agreed  to let the children  go to the rugby game, but there were conditions  that the children had to fulfill. They had to do all the chores for mum for a  week.  Mum had wished that there were more games held in their town more often so the children could do more chores for mum.

The characters in this story are Mum, Karla, Shane and the Author.This story takes place at the Rugby Park and some parts take place at home.

I felt that it was interesting and an awesome story because the children got a chance to watch the Rugby game and it was easier for mum because the children did some chores for her.

The article is about an exhibition that Grandpa Sid went to. He claimed loudly about that he had created the sun so that the people would hear him. He said that it was a while back before the whole world was pitch black and  the President of the world came to see him.

Grandpa Sid was a famous scientist. The characters in the article  are the Scientists, Emma and Grandpa. I like this article because it was  interesting  to learn how Grandpa Sid  made the sun and the moon.

The Day Mary Shook the Karaka Tree by Jan Farr

This Story takes place at the house and at the karaka tree.

In this story the Mum and Dad play tennis with Pete and Wynne. Mum and Wynne keep talking and Wynne hits the ball into the karaka tree.

My favourite part of the book is when the ball goes into the karaka tree.

I recommend this book for people who like narratives.

This story is about a group of children who lived on farms.They had a pie warmer

day at school. Everyone took some food to school that could be heated in a pie warmer.

The characters in this story are Alisha, Matt,  Dad, the children and the teacher. I felt happy when Alisha was able to put her chocolate chip biscuit in the pie warmer because the class felt that she did not have anything to put in the pie warmer because she had a sandwich for lunch.

Big Shift by Jacqui Brown

This story is about  Dad and Mum splitting up and Mum and the kids moved to where she grew up in Wellington. The storyteller missed his Dad a lot but he got over it. The storyteller only liked the smell of food  and the different languages he heard in his neighbourhood when he moved to Wellington with his mum. One night he walked across to some boys who were beating up a kid named Tomo and he chased them off.. The story teller became friends with Tomo. Tomo introduced him to his  friend named Meilai. All three of them became friends. When they grew up Tomo wanted to be a doctor and Meilai lived in Auckland with her Mum, and the storyteller wanted to be a vet.

This story took place at the farm and in Wellington. The characters in the story are Dad, Mum, Meilai, Cherie, Terei, Tomo and storyteller. I felt sad for the storyteller because he missed his Dad a lot.

Big Shift by Jacqui Brown

This story is about a family that splits up and the dad stays back on the farm in the countryside while the mum and the three children go and stay in Wellington. The characters in the story are Dad, Mum, Terei, Cherie, the Narrator, Tomo, Meilai, the two kids who beat up Tomo and the two kids who were tagging. Tomo, Meilai and the Narrator become friends when the Narrator stopped the two kids who are beating up Tomo. Tome introduced the Narrator to Meilai. In the end Meilai lives in Auckland, and Tomo and the Narrator are in college in Wellington.

The story takes place on the farm in the countryside and in Wellington.

I like  this story because it shows how some people feel when  their parents split up and they struggle to keep their family together.

Hello, Joy Cowley By Sarah Reid

I like this story because it shows me the troubles one can go through when one procrastinates and doesn’t do their homework.  Most of the time I do procrastinate  and I save it for the last day. It doesn’t feel good when I rush to finish my homework and my writing is messy and I break my pencil and I have to find my sharpener.

I learnt that I can almost fail because I procrastinate and I could  have done more than before. I like this story because it teaches me about procrastination and what I could do to prevent the troubles.

POPCORN by Jill MacGregor

Walt: Write a review of stories we read.

The story is about a boy and a girl putting corn seed’s in a big brown bag and putting it in the microwave so it can pop. After that, the leftover seeds were used to plant in a brown pot. After that, the kids went to measure the corn stalk because it had started to grow after being left outside for over a week. They grew the corn so they could eat it. The tassels go into the pollen and the pollen goes to ear of the corn and the silks. Once the silk or the ear of the corn comes down, it goes to the stalk of the roots of the corn so it can grow faster. The top of the corn is called silk and the thing that is wrapped around it is called the husk. The kernels or seeds are in the husk and we can eat it when the silks are brown or pink.

This story is about Sophie’s Memories about her Mum and her pony. She remembered the day that her Mum was on her feet and some of the things she did for the family.

This story takes place in Sophie’s Room and outside her house.

The characters in the story are Mum, Dad, the Pony, and Sophie.

The problem in this story was that Sophie was agitated because

her mum told her to do something and she didn't want to do it.

I liked this story because it was an interesting but sad  because Sophie didn't get time to do things with her mum as she used to when her mum was not in a wheel chair.

Docking Day by Amanda Jackson

The story is about a family going to their farm to dock the sheep. The dogs had already begun working. In the distance, the sheep surged over the crests of hills like a tide of white maggots.

The characters in this story are Mollie, Mikey, Tama and the chocolate truck driver.

This story takes place at Uncle Tama’s farm.

I like this story because it was funny. The chocolate truck rolls down the hill and the children helped the truck drive collect all the boxes that fell out of the truck.

The Docking Day  by Amanda Jackson

This story is about a Sheep farm family who go down to the paddocks to do docking. The children helped a bit but most of the time they rolled down hills and chased rabbits. While the family was busy docking, a chocolate truck tumbled down the hill and crashed on a tree. Then the family helped the truck driver collect all the boxes that had fallen out of the truck.

The characters in this story are Aunt Mollie,Mikey,Uncle Tama and the truck driver.

This story takes place in a paddock that was by the sea.

I liked this story because they had christmas decorations  to hang up for docking day.
